Jacquemus Pays Homage to Rural Roots with SS26 Collection

French fashion designer Simon Porte Jacquemus has unveiled his latest collection, “Le Paysan,” at the iconic Château de Versailles. The collection, which combines rustic elegance with playful Provençal touches, pays tribute to Jacquemus’ rural upbringing and family heritage.

Blending Memories and Imagination

Inspired by his childhood in the South of France, Jacquemus has seamlessly blended memories and imagination to create a collection that captures the essence of simple living. The pieces are a reflection of Jacquemus’ personal history, from family photos of harvests to his grandmother’s elegant style and the comforting feel of ironed cotton on a Sunday.

“I want to create an autobiographical journey for June: one that begins in the countryside, soft and minimal, with linen as the foundation,” Jacquemus shared on his Instagram. “From there, it gradually transforms, blossoming into an explosion of bonbon hues, stripes, embroidery, and prints. Various colors emerge, all connected, culminating in a look that is totally couture.”

Rustic Elegance and Skilled Craftsmanship

The womenswear collection features voluminous jupons, tulle aprons, and structured jackets with internal half-corsets. The pieces are crafted with delicate embroidery, monogramming, and geometric motifs reminiscent of vintage linens. Standout pieces include a rare tulle bobbin dress made with 700 meters of cord and a sheer mousseline sheath adorned with silk taffeta diamonds.

The menswear collection exudes a rustic yet elevated vibe, with cropped jackets and wide-legged trousers made from breezy linens and fine leathers. The palette is carefully curated with milky white, cream, and black, as well as fresh shades of blue, pink, and yellow.

Accessories with a Provençal Twist

The accessories in the collection add a touch of whimsy and nostalgia, with berets, Arlésian shawls, and espadrilles tied with grosgrain ribbons. Leather tassels and sculptural details further enhance the folkloric elegance of the collection. Market stall-inspired pieces, such as leather leeks, garlic garlands, and fruit-shaped jewelry, add a playful and surreal touch.

Jacquemus’ signature woven bags also make a return in Provençal textures, along with a new ladylike handbag named after the designer’s mother, “Le Valerie.”

A Personal Homecoming

For Jacquemus, “Le Paysan” is not just a collection, but a personal homecoming. By revisiting silhouettes and themes from his earlier collections, he pays homage to his roots and celebrates his journey as a designer.

With its blend of rustic elegance, skilled craftsmanship, and Provençal playfulness, “Le Paysan” is a collection that captures the essence of Jacquemus’ rural heritage and showcases his growth as a designer.
