Miu Miu Takes Over Paris with SS25 Show at Palais d’Iéna
For Miu Miu’s highly anticipated SS25 show, the Palais d’Iéna in Paris was transformed into a make-shift newspaper printing press, setting the stage for artist Goshka Macuga’s thought-provoking installation, “Salt Looks Like Sugar.” The show’s companion work, according to Miu Miu, aimed to challenge our understanding of truth and its representation.
As models, including stars like Willem Defoe and Hilary Swank, strutted down the aisle in understated looks, a mass of newspapers titled “The Truthless Times” rolled through a mechanical conveyor at the center of the installation. Miu Miu’s collection featured a mix of office wear, everyday styles, and retro references, while the artwork encouraged viewers to question society’s norms in the midst of a chaotic reality.
The first looks showcased a playful approach to layering, with white knee-length dresses deconstructed and paired with baggy windbreakers, hoodies, and pullovers. The collection also featured disheveled tube-style tops with the Miu Miu wordmark, worn as sweater sleeves. Mid-show, nods to the past emerged with trench coats in 1970s-inspired patterns and oversized aviator sunglasses. Other recurring accessories included metal belts and baggy leather handbags. Footwear ranged from patent leather heels and loafers to brightly colored flip-flops and slides.
While some pieces, like sequined dresses and skirts with floral appliques, echoed Miuccia’s more extravagant designs for Prada, the overall collection felt restrained and intentionally minimalistic. The mostly neutral color palette was punctuated with bursts of bright violet, primary red, baby pink, and sky blue. This pared-back approach to embellishment and color perfectly captured the line’s theme of everyday banality.
