Ann Demeulemeester’s Grunge Spring 2025 Show Rocks Paris
On Saturday in Paris, the fashion world was buzzing with excitement as Ann Demeulemeester’s highly anticipated Spring 2025 show took place. The Belgian designer’s collection was a nod to the grunge scene, with a dark and edgy aesthetic that was perfect for rockers.
A Flower-Lined Catwalk and a “Wall of References”
The show took place in a dark granite venue, with a flower-lined catwalk adding a touch of femininity to the otherwise moody atmosphere. Creative director Stefano Gallici had also prepared a “Wall of References” for guests to peruse at their seats. The wall featured photographs that served as inspiration for the collection, including works by Hidemi Ogata, Paul Grund, and Glen E. Friedman.
Front-Row Attendees and an Electric Guitarist
Among the front-row attendees were fashion influencers Luka Sabbat, Moses, and Richie Shazam, who eagerly flipped through the book of references. Meanwhile, an electric guitarist added to the rock-and-roll vibe, jolting the runway before the show began.
Lost-and-Found Thoughts and Scattered Concepts
Gallici revealed that the collection was inspired by a mix of thoughts and emotions, including summer’s sun-faded clothing, bare chests, and denim. He also drew inspiration from Crystal Castles’ “Crystal Castle II” and Fleetwood Mac’s “Rumors.” These seemingly scattered concepts came together beautifully in the collection, showcasing Gallici’s unique vision.
A Regency Genre with a Punk Twist
In the cutting room, Gallici crafted a collection that blended elements of fashion’s regency genre with a smart punk twist. The line featured gentlemanly suiting, structured trousers, frilly shirting, ethereal dresses, and billowing neck ties. Leather vests were draped over delicate capes, and hole-punched T-shirts were paired with silky trousers, adding a rebellious edge to the otherwise refined pieces.
Ann Demeulemeester: A Mindscape to Be Built Piece by Piece
Overall, the collection spoke to Gallici’s vision for the label, which he described as a “mindscape” that is constantly evolving. He explained, “Ann Demeulemeester, to me, is a mindscape that asks to be built piece by piece: adding, taking away, weaving personal feelings and autobiography into the process, finding and losing, losing and finding.” He concluded, “Let me dream a bit more,” leaving us all eagerly anticipating what he will dream up next.
