Flooded with Natural Light: Courrèges SS25 Presentation

The Courrèges SS25 presentation was a stunning display of structural simplicity, with a touch of mystery. The circular white runway was illuminated by natural light from above, creating an otherworldly atmosphere. At the center of the stage, a black portal added to the enigmatic vibe.

The opening look set the tone for the collection, featuring a knee-length black leather cloak with a robust Azorean hood and a sculpted back. This piece, along with the rest of the collection, had a timeless quality that felt both alien and ancient.

The show progressed with a series of looks that shed layers, revealing a minimalistic aesthetic. A cloak-style coat with wide slits for sleeves was followed by black and white mock-neck shift dresses, paying homage to André Courrèges’ iconic 1960s designs.

The collection also featured waist-exposing cut-outs, open backs, and wrap-style garments fastened with tiny bands of fabric. These pieces, along with the use of leather and sheer gauze, added delicate contrast to the predominantly monochromatic color palette.

The monastic feel of the collection was further emphasized by the use of solid tailored fabrics and bandage-style constructions. The line’s minimalism reached its peak with narrow rectangular bras that barely covered the models’ chests, adding a touch of sensuality to the otherwise austere looks.

Courrèges’ ability to make long angular lines feel elegant and sexy is a rare skill, one that the late founder André Courrèges had perfected and that creative director Nicolas Di Felice continues to master.
