A’ja Wilson: The Unstoppable WNBA MVP
Las Vegas Aces’ A’ja Wilson has done it again, earning her third WNBA MVP title and solidifying her status as a certified star. In honor of her major feat, Nike is releasing a special MVP t-shirt to celebrate her success.
Wilson, who was unanimously voted as the 2024 WNBA Most Valuable Player, received a whopping 67 first-place votes from a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters. This makes her the first unanimous winner of the award since the WNBA’s inaugural season in 1997. And this isn’t her first time winning the MVP title – she also took home the award in 2020 and 2022.
With this third win, Wilson has now tied the record of Sheryl Swoopes, Lisa Leslie, and Lauren Jackson for the most MVP awards in WNBA history. And it’s no surprise, considering her impressive stats – currently averaging 26.9 points, 11.9 rebounds, 2.58 blocked shots, and 1.79 steals across 38 games.
But Wilson’s success doesn’t stop there. Throughout her career, she has broken records left and right, becoming the first player to lead the WNBA in total points, rebounds, and blocks in a single season. She also holds the single-season records for both scoring and rebounding.
And she’s not slowing down anytime soon. Wilson and her team are currently in the post-season, aiming for a historic three-peat WNBA champion title.
To commemorate her achievements, Nike is releasing a sleek black MVP t-shirt featuring an image of Wilson’s face, complete with her signature grillz. This iconic image comes from a viral photo of Wilson on the 2024 All-Star Weekend red carpet. The t-shirt also features Wilson’s signature star logo and the Nike swoosh.
But that’s not all – the back of the t-shirt lists all of Wilson’s WNBA accolades, including her Rookie of the Year award and her six WNBA All-Star appearances. Fans can get their hands on this must-have t-shirt soon, as Nike plans to release it online.
