Jil Sander SS25 Envisions Familiar Futurism

Where is Jil Sander taking us for SS25?

Step into the time warp of Jil Sander’s SS25 collection, where antique floral carpeting and dark velvet curtains transport us to an ambiguous era. With 70 looks that defy time and trends, the show opens with bold-shouldered tailoring in ghostly iridescent fabrics, a nod to the power-dressing styles of the 80s. But don’t be fooled, this is not your typical range of neutral suiting – pops of purple, magenta, orange, and yellow add a gentle glow under the runway’s lights.

Just when you think you’ve settled into the antique glam, pastel tones reappear in turn-of-the-20th-century inspired fashion with a feminine touch. Think round-collared blouses, flapper-esque ensembles, and lustrous satin adorned with ornamental trims and details like floral appliques and ruffled hems. And let’s not forget the aged yellow reminiscent of patinated plastic, further adding to the vintage feel.

But the collection doesn’t stop there – a postmodern twist is injected with photographic prints recalling Luke Meier’s previous work at OAMC. These prints add a contemporary edge, like a mysterious retro car glowing under green-tinted fluorescent lighting. And the postmodern touches don’t stop there – accessories like chrome studded black leather bags and python print footwear add an extra dose of modernity.

But the show isn’t complete without a burst of blood orange, smeared across several closing looks including a patent leather trench coat. Is this a sign of a new dawn or a foreboding future? Only time will tell. In the meantime, take a look at all the looks from Jil Sander SS25 in the gallery above and stay tuned for more updates from Milan Fashion Week on Hypebeast.
