Damson Idris: The Rising Star Taking the World by Storm with His Jewelry Line and Met Gala Stunt

When Damson Idris joins our video call, his pearly white grin shines from cheek to cheek. And with good reason – the rising star has plenty to celebrate these days.

Earlier this year, Idris launched his own fine jewelry line, DIDRIS, featuring hand-selected artisans and collaborators. But that’s not all – he also made a splash at the Met Gala with a jaw-dropping stunt. He arrived in a custom Tommy Hilfiger racecar, pulled up to the iconic steps in style, and revealed a glittering driver’s suit underneath. It’s safe to say this moment will inspire many future Halloween costumes.

But that’s not all – Idris is also set to star in the highly anticipated film, F1: The Movie, alongside none other than Brad Pitt. And to top it off, he’s the face of Tommy Hilfiger’s bespoke APXGP collection, inspired by the racing pic.

The Sweet Life of a Movie Star

In F1: The Movie, Idris plays Joshua Pearce, a rookie determined to prove himself to Pitt’s more experienced character, Sonny Hayes. Both drive for the fictional Team APXGP, which is sponsored by Hilfiger’s brand. This means Idris and Pitt’s characters will be decked out in Hilfiger’s signature red, white, and blue designs as they compete for the top title in motorsports.

It’s a perfect match, as Hilfiger has been involved with Formula 1 for over 30 years. He first sponsored Team Lotus in 1991, providing bespoke uniforms for three seasons. He then became the official clothing sponsor for Ferrari in 1998, a role he held for four years. Even during a break from sponsoring, Hilfiger remained a loyal fan and even learned how to drive his own Ferrari Enzo at his former business partner and current Aston Martin Formula 1 team owner Lawrence Stroll’s personal track.

In 2018, Hilfiger made a triumphant return to the racetrack as a sponsor for Mercedes-AMG.

Fashion and Entertainment Collide

“Since I was a kid peeking through the fences at Watkins Glen racetrack, Formula 1 has been legendary to me,” said Hilfiger. “As F1 has opened its doors to new worlds like entertainment and fashion, the sport has become a cultural phenomenon.”

In the spirit of “fashiontainment,” Hilfiger took his movie partnership one step further by creating a full-blown APXGP collection. The line features everything from racer-inspired garments, like vegan leather track jackets and moto-manic shirts, to trackside silhouettes, including tailored Japanese denim and merino knit polos.

Idris, with his impeccable style and love for motorsports, is the perfect ambassador for this fashion-forward future. Keep an eye out for him on the big screen and the racetrack – he’s definitely one to watch.
