5000 Takes Over NYC with “Mabuhay Gardens” Showcase
The Bay has officially arrived in the Big Apple with 5000’s highly anticipated Spring/Summer 2025 showcase, “Mabuhay Gardens.” Held at the historic Marble Cemetery in Lower Manhattan, the event paid tribute to the legendary San Francisco punk venue and its iconic influence on the fashion world.
Designer Taylor Thompson, nominated for the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, channeled the rebellious and raw energy of “The Mab” in his collection, featuring pieces that would make members of The Dead Kennedys and Black Flag proud. From tinny silver skirts to printed tailored suits and fluorescent pants, the collection embodied the perfect blend of chaos and creativity.
But the show wasn’t your typical runway affair. Instead, models strutted through the garden with white umbrellas in hand, making intense eye contact with the audience and each other. And with striking eye makeup on most, the intensity was taken to a whole new level.
Thompson’s vision of inclusivity was also on full display, as the label’s garments were donned by models of all genders. In fact, one model even stopped a guest in her tracks to ask about her head wrap, showcasing the strong sense of community fostered by “The Mab.”
