Adidas Teases New “Lace” Samba: A Ballet-Inspired Twist on the Classic Football Shoe

Adidas is back at it again, teasing sneakerheads with a new iteration of their iconic Samba shoe. This time, they’re taking inspiration from the world of ballet with their “Lace” makeup.

The Samba has been making a comeback in recent years, with a range of new variations and collaborations. But this is the first time it’s delving into the realm of “balletcore.” While the “Lace” is not a collaboration, it definitely channels the influence of popular designers like Wales Bonner and Sandy Liang.

But don’t worry, the sleek silhouette of the Samba remains intact. The “Lace” focuses on updating materials rather than making major changes. The teaser images show a classic white-and-black colorway, but upon closer inspection, you’ll notice a subtle spin on the football classic. The white leather uppers have been replaced with a lace-like mesh, while ruffled white trim and oversized laces with scalloped details and leather flowers add a touch of elegance.

And it’s not just the Samba that’s getting some love from adidas. The brand is also reviving other heritage models like the SL72 and Handball Spezial as part of their 75th-anniversary line. Despite some controversial moments, adidas’s strategy of embracing their heritage has paid off, with a 12% increase in revenue in the second fiscal quarter.

So when can we get our hands on the Samba “Lace”? adidas has yet to announce an official release date, but it’s expected to drop before the end of 2024. Keep your eyes peeled for more updates on this exciting new release.
