An Allegorical Feminine Fusion: Elena Velez’s Spring/Summer 2025 Collection is a Bold Statement for All Women

In her largest showcase to date, designer Elena Velez presents “La Pucelle,” a collection inspired by society’s shadow women. From historical figures like Jeanne D’Arc and Boudica to modern icons like Lady Columbia and Calamity Jane, Velez draws from a diverse range of female influences to create a dynamic and disruptive collection.

“Renegade pageant queens and patriots,” Velez sets the scene. “Who are these symbolic sorority members who hold the aspirations of a people in their hands? Who are these allegorical guides and folkloric pathfinders who define the spirit of a divided country – proudly wearing the scarlet letter of ‘USA’?”

Hester Prynne, the iconic protagonist of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s “The Scarlet Letter,” would surely approve of Velez’s latest ready-to-wear range. As a finalist for the prestigious LVMH Prize, Velez delivers a collection that is both complex and culturally-commentating. Standout pieces include tattered and lacy gowns, leather garments, bold statement slogans on graphic pieces, and reworked prom dresses. Singer Tinashe even donned one of these dresses for the second look of Tuesday evening’s Soho-set showcase.

“‘La Pucelle’ continues the investigation of the brand’s shadow woman: nuanced and multidimensional female figures who revel in their own autonomy at all costs, unapologetic for their desires and vices,” notes the collection. This ethos is evident not only in the clothing, but also in the showcase’s sponsors and contributors, which include customized platform UGG New Heights footwear and an official collaboration with OnlyFans.
