Glenn Martens Departs Y/Project After 11 Years as Creative Director
In a surprising announcement, Glenn Martens has revealed that he will be leaving his role as Creative Director at Y/Project. After 11 years at the helm, Martens has decided to move on to new opportunities.
“Y/Project thanks Glenn for his unique contributions to the label and wishes him the best for the future,” the brand stated in a statement.
During his time at Y/Project, Martens gained a cult following for his clever use of proportions and modern take on historical references. He also attracted a celebrity audience, with stars like Ye, Tyga, Irina Shayk, Charli XCX, and Mia Khalifa modeling for the brand’s Fall/Winter 2024 lookbook.
However, the brand faced some challenges earlier this year when it sat out of Paris Fashion Week due to reported cash flow issues. Additionally, Y/Project co-founder Gilles Elalouf, who brought Martens on board, passed away in June at the age of 58. Elalouf had originally launched the brand with Yohan Serfaty, who died of cancer in 2013.
“Glenn Martens thanks Y/Project and Gilles Elalouf, the late CEO of the brand who tragically passed away last June, for giving him the support and freedom to express his vision while expanding on the creative artistry that the label established,” the statement added.
Martens also currently serves as the Creative Director of Diesel, a position he took on in 2020. Despite his departure from Y/Project, the brand is still scheduled to show at Paris Fashion Week this season on September 25. Fans can expect to see Martens’ final collection for the label before he moves on to his next chapter.
