UNIQLO Launches Highly Anticipated KAWS + Warhol UT Collection Worldwide
The wait is over – UNIQLO’s highly anticipated KAWS + Warhol UT collection has finally launched worldwide. The graphic range, which was teased earlier this month, is a special collaboration to commemorate the joint exhibition at The Andy Warhol Museum. Mixing both artists’ revered artwork on everyday staples, this collection is a must-have for any fashion and art enthusiast.
As with their debut exhibition together, this marks the first time KAWS and Warhol’s work has been featured alongside each other in a dedicated UNIQLO collection. While KAWS has previously provided exclusive iterations of his signature characters for the brand’s T-shirts, bags, and toys, Warhol’s estate has also been rehashed and applied his print onto limited-edition mid-layers. With the success of these previous drops, it’s no surprise that the new collaboration is already selling out globally.
Speaking on the collection, curator of the KAWS + Warhol UT exhibition Patrick Moore says, “Both of these artists have disrupted the traditional boundaries between commercial and fine art as an integral part of their practice. UNIQLO’s role moves seamlessly between the exhibition, merchandise, and a beautiful catalog reaching an enormous international audience.”
A Tribute to Two Iconic Artists
Taking a closer look at the drop, the collection features an extensive line-up of coach jackets, sweatshirts, T-shirts, lounge pants, and accessories. Each piece pairs one print with a sketch, seamlessly weaving together the unique aesthetics of KAWS and Warhol. The hero design, featuring the KAWS Companion figure and Warhol’s Moon Explorer Robot illustration, can be found on three products: a jacket, T-shirt, and bag.
One standout piece from the collection is a grey sweatsuit, featuring KAWS’ character holding Warhol’s iconic pop-art banana print on the top, and the two hallmarks tucked into the pocket and beside the ankle on the matching bottoms. This playful arrangement can be seen throughout the collection, with artwork placed in unexpected places on the garments and accessories.
