Breaking News: norda Unveils the Ultimate Trail Running Super Shoe, the 005
After a highly anticipated debut at the Hardrock 100 ultramarathon and weeks of speculation, norda has finally revealed their latest creation: the 005. This shoe is being hailed as the ultimate trail running super shoe and was recently showcased at the Chamonix leg of the UTMB trail race series, known as the Paris Fashion Week of the trail running world.
The Pinnacle of norda: The 005
According to Nick Martire, co-founder and CEO of norda, the brand’s constant pursuit of creating dynamic and responsive running shoes has led them to be the first ever to combine three incredible component brands: Dyneema, Vibram, and now Arnitel. This has resulted in the lightest, fastest, and most stable trail shoe ever made.
The Dynamic Trio: Dyneema, Vibram, and Arnitel
Fans of norda are already familiar with the first two materials, as they have been featured in the brand’s previous releases, the 001, 002, and 003. The 005 takes it to the next level with an updated version of norda’s bio-based Dyneema blend, used in both the upper and laces of the shoe. This creates a lightweight, water-resistant, breathable, and incredibly durable cocoon for the top half of the foot. Vibram also makes a return with a new Megagrip Elite rubber soleplate configuration.
The Lightest of the Light: 211g for Men, 177g for Women
Not only is the 005 packed with technical innovations, but it is also ultra-lightweight. Weighing in at just 211g for a men’s size 8.5 and 177g for a women’s size 8, the 005 is the lightest, full-stack trail running super-shoe ever made. But the real game-changer is the midsole.
Introducing Arnitel: The Most Advanced Midsole Foam for Trail Running
While previous norda midsoles used a custom Vibram SLE foam, the 005 introduces Arnitel, a thermoplastic copolyester elastomer (TPC) material. According to Martire, the goal in creating the 005 was to find the most advanced midsole foam for trail running that not only had high resiliency, but also lasted 5-10 times longer than other super foams.
Sustainability at Its Core
As with all of norda’s releases, sustainability is a key factor in the construction of the 005. Not only is it made with bio-based materials, but the high quality of these materials also ensures durability. As lead designer Louis-Martin Tremblay stated in a 2022 interview with Hypebeast, “Making a shoe that’s durable and sustainable is a lot better than a shoe that’s sustainable but will get destroyed in three months.”
On Display at UTMB and a Collaboration with Soar
The norda elite 665 team, consisting of Arden Young, Matt Seidel, Jason Schlarb, and Kelsey Hogan, put the 005 to the test at the UTMB this week. The shoe was also showcased at a pop-up in Chamonix’s Sanglard Sports store throughout the week, with the brand teasing a collaboration with Soar on Instagram.
