Pharrell Rocks 15,000 Pearl-Encrusted Blazer at Met Gala
The Met Gala is known for its extravagant and over-the-top fashion, and this year was no exception. But one look that stood out among the rest was Pharrell’s custom-made blazer from Louis Vuitton, adorned with a whopping 15,000 pearls. As the men’s creative director for the luxury brand, Pharrell certainly made a statement with his outfit choice.
But it wasn’t just the number of pearls that caught everyone’s attention, it was the craftsmanship and attention to detail that truly made this blazer a work of art. The in-house artisans at Louis Vuitton spent a staggering 400 hours hand-stitching each pearl onto the blazer, making it a true labor of love.
Pharrell didn’t stop there with his outfit, as he perfectly paired the pearl-adorned blazer with a classic white shirt, black tie, and flared black trousers. This combination not only showcased his impeccable style, but also paid homage to the Black dandyism movement and the craftsmanship inherent in American heritage.
But the details didn’t end with the blazer. Pharrell accessorized with a pair of black sunglasses inspired by the LV Trunk details, yellow diamond earrings, and a gold set of grills. And in true Pharrell fashion, he revealed on the blue carpet that his gold grills were actually made from his Invisalign trays. Talk about creativity!
When asked about the theme of the Met Gala, Pharrell explained, “It’s a part of the American heritage. It’s an opportunity to be creative. That’s the American thing. We’re able to tell our story, and so, when you think about the craftsmanship, the pearl pinstripes are just icing on the cake. It’s just letting you know, this is America and you can do and be anything you want to be. It’s a beautiful story.”
