Adidas Q1 Results Impress Analysts, But Trump’s Tariffs Cast Uncertainty Over Future
Despite a strong showing in the first quarter of 2025, adidas is not convinced that it will be immune to the impact of US President Donald Trump’s sweeping tariffs on global trade. While the German company reported a 155% jump in net income, it remains cautious about the uncertain trade landscape.
In a statement to CNBC, adidas expressed concern over the potential for higher costs and price increases in the US market due to the tariffs. The company stated, “Given the uncertainty around the negotiations between the US and different exporting countries, we do not know what the final tariffs will be. Therefore, we cannot make any ‘final’ decisions on what to do.”
The tariffs, which have received much attention for their impact on China, also have a significant effect on other countries where adidas manufactures its products. Vietnam and Cambodia, for example, could see tariffs of over 40% if a new deal is not reached.
For adidas, this comes at a time when the brand was beginning to recover from its controversial partnership with Kanye West. However, the company’s strong performance, driven by popular styles like the Gazelle, Samba, Stan Smith, and Superstar, offers some optimism as competitors struggle to weather the storm.
Meanwhile, rival brand Nike is facing a potential revenue drop due to its declining performance. Analysts predict that it may see its worst decline since the COVID-19 pandemic hit the industry.
As of now, adidas has not revealed specific details on how prices will be affected in the US. Stay tuned to Hypebeast for the latest updates on this developing story.
