Nike Honors Baseball Legend Jackie Robinson with Special Cortez Model

Nike is paying tribute to the iconic Jackie Robinson with a new release of their classic Cortez model. The “Jackie Robinson Day” edition features a sleek white leather base, accented with beige suede overlays on the heel, toebox, and eyelets. The heel also boasts exposed red stitching, inspired by the lacing threads on a baseball.

Reflective Chrome and #42 Details

The black leather swoosh on the side of the shoe is outlined in reflective chrome, adding a touch of shine to the design. The number 42, Robinson’s jersey number, is prominently featured on the chrome tongue tag, debossed heel stamps, and insoles. This number holds special significance as it is the only jersey number to be retired by every single MLB team.

A Classic Look with a Meaningful Message

The “Jackie Robinson Day” Cortez is completed with a striped white midsole and herringbone outsole, giving it a classic and versatile look. The finishing touch is the white laces with silver dubraes, adding a touch of elegance to the design. This release is a nod to the annual commemoration of Jackie Robinson Day on April 15, which marks the day he broke the color barrier in professional baseball in 1947. Robinson spent 10 years in the MLB and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1962. He passed away in 1972, but his legacy lives on as a trailblazer and inspiration for generations to come.
