Loewe’s New Co-Creative Directors: Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez

After much speculation, it’s official: Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez are taking over as Loewe’s new co-creative directors, effective April 7. The beloved Jonathan Anderson will be stepping down from his role.

The Dynamic Duo

While McCollough and Hernandez may not be household names yet, their work has been seen on red carpets, in street style photos, and on celebrities like the Olsen twins and Chloë Sevigny. The duo founded Proenza Schouler while in their final year at Parsons in 2002, and their thesis collection was quickly bought by luxury retailer Barneys.

A Refined Cool Kid

Since its launch, Proenza Schouler has become a staple in the New York City fashion scene, known for its contemporary and trend-free designs. Despite the ever-changing fashion landscape, the designers have remained true to their signature style, focusing on comfortable yet chic silhouettes, popular bags, and unique footwear.

The Iconic PS1 Bag

In 2008, Proenza Schouler launched its iconic PS1 bag, which has since become a must-have accessory alongside other it-bags like the Balenciaga City and Louis Vuitton Speedy. The bag’s timeless and functional design has stood the test of time, even in the midst of the pandemic.

A Sound Commercial Fit

With Anderson’s departure, many are speculating that McCollough and Hernandez’s design ethos and strong celebrity following make them a perfect fit for Loewe. While no replacement has been named at Proenza Schouler, the duo will remain involved in the brand’s operations to preserve its New York legacy.

Business as Usual

Despite the changes, Proenza Schouler released its first lookbook, shot by Tim Elkaïm, just after New York Fashion Week in February, signaling that it’s business as usual for the brand. McCollough and Hernandez are set to make their runway debut this September alongside other top designers like Chanel, Bottega Veneta, and Gucci.

Stay Tuned

As we eagerly await the debut of Loewe’s new co-creative directors, we can also look forward to updates from other top fashion houses like Balenciaga, who is still searching for a successor to Demna Gvasalia. In the meantime, stay tuned to Hypebeast for all the latest updates and coverage from this season’s runways.
