Prada’s Fall/Winter 2025 Collection: A Bold Interrogation of Modern Beauty
The Prada Fall/Winter 2025 womenswear runway was a sight to behold earlier today, with frizzy hair, boiled wool, and paper bag hemlines dominating the collection. But beyond the striking visuals, the show was also a thought-provoking exploration of modern beauty. Miuccia Prada challenged traditional notions of beauty and questioned how clothing can transform our perceptions of it. In turn, she also asked how beauty can inspire us to reinvent our clothing.
The runway was set in the same industrial metal structure and printed carpet as the FW25 menswear collection, creating a stark contrast between the harshness of the setting and the softness of the clothing. The collection reevaluated common silhouettes in a new context, transforming ideas of youth into adulthood.
The show opened with a parade of loosely hanging charcoal overcoats and dresses, accentuated by the models’ bare faces and frazzled hair. This was a deliberate nod to Miuccia’s previous use of balloon-static-induced hair for Miu Miu’s playful FW23 collection, but this time with a more somber tone.
The theme of transforming youthfulness into adulthood was evident throughout the collection, with pleated mini skirts paired with crinkled button downs and tapered by long overcoats and low-profile keds. The collection also saw a departure from the barely-there windswept summer slips of the past few seasons, with oversized floral paper doll dresses and stiffer wool and leather scarves adding a touch of maturity.
While faux fur has been a breakout trend this year, Miuccia and co-designer Raf Simons took it to the next level with their faux fur ideas from the past few seasons, including FW25 menswear. Massive faux fur collars wrapped around overcoats worn as dresses, faux fur was laminated for an artificial sheen, and a deconstructed blazer featured contrasting patchworks of faux fur on the body and lapel.
If in the past few years, Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons were designing for kids playing dress up, their latest collection shows that they have all grown up now.
