Nike Unveils New Colorway for WNBA Star Sabrina Ionescu’s Signature Shoe
Nike has just dropped a fresh new colorway for WNBA sharpshooter Sabrina Ionescu’s second signature shoe, the Nike Sabrina 2. Dubbed “Stronger Than Gold,” this latest iteration of the basketball shoe features a unique blend of “Rattan,” “Khaki,” “Sail,” and “Metallic Gold” tones.
The inspiration behind this colorway comes from a Romanian bracelet that Ionescu’s mother gifted her, symbolizing the strong support of her family. But it’s not just the colorway that sets this shoe apart. The second-generation silhouette is also 28 grams lighter than its predecessor, making it even more agile on the court.
The Nike Sabrina 2 boasts a plush CushIon 3.0 foam midsole, the first of its kind to appear in a Nike basketball shoe. This is held inside a durable CushIon foam carrier, providing both comfort and support. The forefoot features a Nike Zoom Air unit for maximum energy return and responsiveness, while a band system keeps the midfoot secure and comfortable.
The rubber outsole of the shoe features a new “S”-inspired herringbone pattern, while Nike’s iconic Swoosh motif slashes through the medial side, representing the shattered glass ceilings that Ionescu continues to break. The upper design details also pay homage to the star athlete, with an “S” frame and embroidered patterns that resemble her likeness.
