Christopher John Rogers Makes Triumphant Return to NYFW with “Collection 015: Exhale”
After a five-year hiatus from the CFDA calendar, Christopher John Rogers has made a dazzling comeback at New York Fashion Week. The Brooklyn Fish Transfer building at the Brooklyn Navy Yard was transformed into a star-studded spectacle for the presentation of “Collection 015: Exhale,” showcasing the label’s vibrant energy and core ethos.
According to the show notes, “Exhale” is a tribute to the brand’s loyal customers, partners, and “family of squirrels” who have supported them since their early days as an independent American brand. Drawing inspiration from the works of artists Angela de la Cruz and Hélio Oiticica, known for their rejection of boundaries, CJR takes his reinterpretation of the rainbow to new heights in this collection. Each piece exudes authenticity and celebrates free creative expression.
In a world where identity and individuality are constantly challenged, “Collection 015” serves as a bold statement of defiance and self-discovery. The collection offers a mix of delectable and unique designs that seamlessly blend into any wardrobe, representing a confident step forward in ready-to-wear fashion.
“Exhale” takes us on a journey through the rainbow, starting with fiery red and orange pieces, followed by vibrant greens and yellows, and ending with stunning multicolored gowns, sets, and layered ensembles. The collection features a range of fabrics, from matte cotton and twill to luxurious wool and silk. While red and green dominate the rainbow-inspired collection, CJR also includes some more subdued options, such as black gowns and suiting.
But even in the midst of the all-black ensembles, color still makes an appearance. A black corset gown with subtle rainbow stitching and a sleek black suit with red detailing add a touch of vibrancy to the otherwise monochromatic looks. The final look of the show, a minimalistic black trenchcoat, serves as a reminder of the brand’s roots and its evolution over the years.
“We haven’t been immune to the recent challenges of the industry and are grateful as a brand to be here now presenting this body of work,” the show notes conclude. “Exhale” is a celebration of CJR’s roots, featuring expressive occasionwear and playful daywear, and a continued effort to give space for fantasies to flourish.
