XLIM Founder Dohee Kim Teases New Balance 509 Model with Bold Color and Texture Changes
Get ready sneakerheads, because Dohee Kim is back at it again with another collaboration with New Balance. The XLIM founder and stylist recently shared sneak peek images of his latest 509 model, and it’s safe to say that this one is a major departure from his previous collab with the Boston-based brand.
Kim’s last collaboration with New Balance brought back the early-aughts-era runner, with shiny overlays and a dark color palette. But this time around, he’s taking a different approach. The new 509 model features vibrant, color-saturated hairy suede overlays and a natural rubber gum sole. This shift towards softer textures and bold colors is in line with XLIM’s “Episode 7” collection, which also featured eye-catching CMYK hues.
But that’s not all – in true XLIM fashion, Kim is also incorporating technical features with naturalistic finishes. The new 509s will have a skidded midsole, giving them a worn-in look and feel. And if you’re a fan of Kim’s previous 509s, you’ll be happy to know that he’s bringing back the black colorway, but with a twist. The black suede overlays will contrast with dark purple mesh underlays, creating a sleek and minimalistic “ink-hued” palette.
Unfortunately, an official release date and pricing information have not been announced yet. But according to sources, the Dohee Kim x New Balance 509s are expected to drop on the New Balance website and select retailers in Fall 2025. So mark your calendars and get ready to add these must-have sneakers to your collection.
