Sankuanz Takes Paris by Storm with FW25 Collection “Chöd – Laughter of the Dakinis”
Chinese designer Shangguan Zhe has made a splash in Paris with his latest collection for Sankuanz, titled “Chöd – Laughter of the Dakinis.” Drawing inspiration from the Tibetan Buddhist practice of Chöd, Zhe’s designs blend ancient spirituality with modern functionality, bridging the gap between East and West.
The show opened with a series of all-black looks, featuring traditional Chinese collars and diagonal plackets that pay homage to Zhe’s heritage while maintaining a contemporary edge. A pop of bright orange added a bold contrast to the dark ensembles, with crinkled robe jackets and skirts reminiscent of Buddhist monk attire.
Fringe veils obscured the models’ faces, drawing attention to the dramatic garments. A full-coverage burgundy ensemble, a black two-piece set with traditional embroideries, and a baggy jacket and skirt made with creased fabric were among the standout pieces. Zhe then introduced clean denim-focused looks, including roomy trousers, architectural trucker jackets, and maxi skirts.
The collection also featured Western influences, with plaid flannel and distressed brown canvas pieces adding a touch of Americana. The show ended with unconventional looks, featuring full face coverings and all-black styling topped with tall headwear adorned with red-eyed ravens and fringe tassels, reminiscent of cowboy attire. The finale was a show-stopping avant-garde bridal look, with the model completely veiled in white lace and sporting reptilian-embossed cowboy boots.
