Willy Chavarria: The Designer Who Never Rests
Willy Chavarria is a force to be reckoned with in the fashion industry. Just when the press thought they had seen the best of him at his debut at Paris Fashion Week, the Mexican-American designer surprised everyone with another major announcement. He has teamed up with Kendrick Lamar for a ready-to-wear collaboration, just in time for the rapper’s highly anticipated Super Bowl halftime performance.
The two first crossed paths two years ago when Lamar wore Chavarria’s designs on his Big Steppers Tour. Now, they have joined forces to create a limited-edition collection of fan-inspired gear to celebrate the monumental show. This collaboration is a three-way partnership between the NFL, Lamar’s pgLang label, and Chavarria himself.
The standout piece in the collection is a cropped, balloon-sleeved satin jacket with “KLamar” embroidery on the chest and “g.NATIONAL” lettering on the back, a nod to Lamar’s upcoming Grand National Tour with SZA. The collection also includes lightweight practice jerseys, drawstring mesh shorts, and Super Bowl LIX hoodies and T-shirts featuring graphics designed by Felipe Merida and lyrics from Lamar’s song “tv off” – “Foot Up On The Gas But Somebody Gotta Do It.”
The Willy Chavarria x Kendrick Lamar collection will be available to shop online starting Wednesday, January 29. And the best part? Proceeds from the collection will be donated to organizations and individuals affected by the recent Los Angeles fires. Prices for the collection will range from $55 USD to $750 USD.
