Yuki Yagi’s Creative Direction Takes Vowels to New Heights with “Everyday Life” Collection
Under the guidance of Yuki Yagi, vowels has found its inspiration in the past, drawing from the label’s extensive Research Library in New York City. With over 2,000 books and magazines at their disposal, the design and production process in Japan is constantly informed and elevated.
For the Fall/Winter season, vowels presents their latest collection, “everyday life,” which builds upon the label’s strong foundation. Yagi’s “Shu Ha Ri” approach, a Japanese concept that describes the stages of learning and mastery, is evident in the versatile and elevated staple silhouettes.
The craftsmanship of the pieces in “everyday life” is on full display, with relaxed cotton, wool, silk, and mohair being used to create the collection. The color palette is vibrant, with a hand-stitched knitted bomber in shades of steel blue, black, and burgundy leading the range, inspired by M-1. A post-Impressionist still life is painted on a split raglan coat, double-zip jacket, and work pants.
Continuing with their academia-inspired aesthetic, vowels offers a sleek, all-black varsity jacket with chenille patches, as well as a lineup of Ivy-inspired collegiate tees. The collection also features a wool mohair suit paired with floor-length trench coats, heavyweight cardigans in bright hues, and pastel pullover knits with a perforated all-over heart pattern.
