Plaid is Back at Junya Watanabe MAN Fall/Winter 2025
The rugged, masculine outdoorsman is the inspiration behind Junya Watanabe MAN’s latest collection, which was recently showcased in Paris. The show opened with a soundtrack of folk country music, setting the tone for the plaid-filled looks that were about to hit the runway.
Models strutted out in Levi’s denim jeans paired with traditional buffalo plaid in classic black and red, or the Prince of Wales check. The overall aesthetic was reminiscent of a rugged camper, at one with nature.
But this collection isn’t just about embracing the lumberjack stereotype. It takes a modern twist, channeling a hyper-masculine vibe with bearded models sporting plaid ensembles, cowboy hats, and canvas chore jackets.
Junya Watanabe’s signature dandy style is also present, with leather trench coats and militant jackets and overcoats incorporating plaid and canvas elements. Collaborations are a key feature of this collection, with Filson strap duffels and New Balance 471s making their world premiere on the runway. Boat shoe loafers and trail boots also make an appearance, completing the outdoorsy look.
