Saucony Celebrates the Rebirth of Retro-Inspired Trainer 80 with London Communities
Saucony has solidified its position as a top running and lifestyle brand in the world. Its sneakers offer a unique twist, often collaborating with cultural icons like Westside Gunn and Footpatrol. Now, Saucony is honoring two London-based communities that are making waves in their own right: Balamii radio station and Your Friendly Runners collective.
Since its launch, Saucony has prided itself on providing sneakers that are both functional for long-distance running and stylish for streetwear enthusiasts. But whether their shoes end up on the feet of runners or ravers, one thing remains constant: community.
This is especially evident in Saucony’s Trainer 80, a retro-inspired silhouette that first debuted in 1978. The shoe featured high-density EVA foam and a modern design that eliminated the outdated cardboard layer between the sole and upper. Now, the Trainer 80 is back with its classic look and updated details, embodying the brand’s mantra of “Run As One.”
James Browning from Balamii expressed his excitement for the collaboration, stating, “This project with Saucony represents everything Balamii stands for – community and talent. We are proud to have brought together these incredible emerging artists for a campaign that celebrates heritage style for a new generation.” Matt Horrocks from Your Friendly Runners added, “Everything we do at YFR sits at the intersection of running and community, so it felt like a natural alignment to feature in the launch of Saucony’s timeless Trainer 80. It’s exciting to bring back a true OG style that still feels super relevant today.”
The new Trainer 80 and its corresponding campaign, directed by Joe Howat, can be viewed on the official Saucony website. The sneakers are available for purchase now.
