Fragment Design and Nike: A Sneaker Collaboration 20 Years in the Making
For over two decades, the dynamic duo of fragment design and Nike have been creating some of the most sought-after sneaker collaborations in the industry. From iconic designs to unreleased samples, their partnership has produced a plethora of must-have kicks.
In a recent interview with QUIET #7, fragment design founder Hiroshi Fujiwara revealed one of their never-before-seen creations: an Air Force 1 Low collaboration with influences from the Air Presto. This unique silhouette features a deconstructed design, with leather overlays on top of a neoprene base inspired by the Air Presto. The leather heel overlay is left unattached, providing a unique touch to the classic sneaker.
Other notable details include hiking boot-inspired rope laces with reflective accents and a two-tone midsole. The feature showcased three colorways of the design: black, black and white, and navy and white.
When discussing the design process, Fujiwara stated, “I thought it would be interesting if I could connect the midsole of the sample I tried directly to the upper, but it seems to be quite difficult. However, this first sample was comfortable to wear and was fairly well made. I feel like with a little more trial and error I could make something even better, but that’s for another time.”
While this particular pair will not be released to the public, it’s clear that the fragment design and Nike collaboration is always pushing the boundaries and creating innovative designs. Keep an eye out for their latest collaboration, two versions of the Air Zoom Spiridon, which have recently been released.
