18 East and Goodhood Team Up for a Transatlantic Capsule Collection

Two powerhouse brands, 18 East and Goodhood, have joined forces to create a unique and innovative capsule collection. Inspired by the recontextualization of open spaces in urban environments, the collection is aptly named “The Improbable Builders Co-Op.”

The Inspiration Behind the Collection

The collection draws inspiration from the book Charas: The Impossible Dome Builders, which tells the story of the unlikely partnership between architect and geodesic dome inventor R. Buckminster Fuller and six ex-gang members known as CHARAS. Together, they built a dome on a vacant lot near New York City’s Manhattan Bridge.

Garments with a Purpose

To bring this concept to life, the collaborative partners have taken familiar utilitarian garments such as fleeces, bomber jackets, and overshirts, and transformed them through handcrafted production techniques. These techniques were performed in India, adding an extra layer of authenticity to the collection.

Standout Pieces

Some standout pieces from the collection include the Dabu printed fleece jacket and vest, which use a mud-resist dye and handspun, hand-woven materials. The Khadid flight jacket also stands out with its handspun, hand-woven cotton canvas yarn and hand-screened liner print. Other pieces in the collection include a full-zip shirt, balloon cargo pants, a loopback terry fleece sweatshirt, a shaggy cardigan, an overdyed five-pocket jean, and a strapback cap.

A Nod to History

The collection’s lookbook was shot in the same neighborhood where Fuller and the CHARAS constructed the dome, adding a nostalgic touch to the overall aesthetic.

Availability

This collaboration marks the first time that an 18 East collection will be available physically outside of the United States and Japan. The collection will be available on January 9th through both 18 East and Goodhood’s websites and stores. Don’t miss your chance to get your hands on these one-of-a-kind pieces.
