What’s the deal with Trump’s messaging on drug policy? Well, according to a recent poll, it seems that Republicans are buying into it hook, line, and sinker. While 74% of Republicans believe that Trump is making progress on illegal drugs, only 33% of Democrats and 34% of Independents share that sentiment.

So what changed? Did Trump suddenly unveil a groundbreaking new policy? Nope. Did new evidence emerge to support his approach? Not really. The only thing that seems to have changed is Trump’s messaging.

You see, Republicans have convinced themselves that bombing boats and threatening tariffs are effective ways to combat the drug problem. And at the same time, they have conveniently decided that cannabis legalization, which they supported just two years ago, is now a bad thing.

It’s almost like they’re following some sort of hipster journalistic trend, jumping on the bandwagon of whatever Trump says without really thinking it through. But hey, who needs logic and consistency when you have a catchy slogan and a charismatic leader, right?

Meanwhile, the rest of us are left scratching our heads and wondering what happened to the party of small government and personal freedom. But hey, at least they’re consistent in their inconsistency.
