Introducing the OTW by Vans Mary Jane DS by Beatrice Domond: A Tribute to Haitian Heritage
Get ready sneakerheads, because Beatrice Domond has done it again. The skater and part-time sneaker designer has teamed up with Vans to release a new shoe that pays homage to her Haitian roots and upbringing. The OTW by Vans Mary Jane DS is a hybridized take on the classic Mary Jane silhouette, and it’s a must-have for any collection.
Domond shared her excitement for the project, stating, “I wanted to show my community another side of me. I don’t think anyone really knows I have Haitian ancestry.” She also expressed her gratitude towards her grandmother and mother, who played a significant role in her success and opportunities.
For those who have been following Domond’s journey, this collaboration feels like a natural progression. In a 2023 Sole Mates interview with Hypebeast, she gushed about her love for Vans’ slip-on silhouettes, making the OTW by Vans Mary Jane DS the perfect next step.
The shoe features a mixed-material upper made of premium leather and suede in a sleek black colorway. The rugged statement outsole adds a touch of edge, while the goatskin linings provide comfort and durability. The sock liner is adorned with a digitally printed map of Haiti, and the box features throwback Vans logos and Domond’s signature.
To further celebrate her Haitian background, Domond directed a short film with photographer Sandy Kim. In the film, she and her grandmother, Elise, discuss their upbringings in both English and Haitian Creole. It’s a beautiful tribute to her heritage and a reminder of the importance of family and culture.
The OTW by Vans Mary Jane DS by Beatrice Domond will be released on December 19th and will retail for $140 USD. Don’t miss out on this special collaboration – grab your pair at OTW by Vans.
