Levi’s Teams Up with Costume Designer for Bob Dylan Biopic
Levi’s, the iconic denim brand, has announced its involvement in the highly anticipated Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown. The film, starring Timothée Chalamet, features a special capsule collection created in collaboration with costume designer Arianne Phillips.
Vintage 501 XX Jeans Take Center Stage
The highlight of the collection is the vintage 501 XX jeans, which feature a unique raw-edged triangular gusset sewn at the bottoms. This detail was inspired by customizations made by Dylan’s ex-girlfriend, Suze Rotolo, to accommodate the singer’s boots. The jeans also come with a recreation of Dylan’s iconic D belt.
Premium Pricing for a Premium Collection
While the price point for the collection may seem steep, with the jacket retailing for $1200 USD and the jeans for $495 USD, it is a deliberate choice to honor Dylan’s legacy and the meticulous approach taken in creating the collection. Instead of opting for generic graphic basics, the collaborators chose to craft something truly unique.
A Meticulous Approach to Historical Accuracy
According to Business of Fashion, Phillips worked closely with Levi’s Vintage Clothing design director Paul O’Neill to ensure historical accuracy in the costumes for the film. O’Neill helped identify specific Levi’s silhouettes worn by Dylan in archival imagery, such as the Levi’s Super Slims he began wearing after spending time with the Beatles.
Official Merchandise for A Complete Unknown
The collaborative costume team approached Searchlight Pictures to offer the special capsule collection as official merchandise for the film. Fans can get their hands on the Bob Dylan Levi’s collection beginning Friday, December 20 exclusively on Levi.com. Don’t miss your chance to own a piece of this unique and historically accurate collection.
