Carhartt Makes Its Big Apple Debut in the Flatiron District
Carhartt, the iconic workwear brand with a 136-year history, has finally arrived in New York City with the opening of its first flagship store in the Flatiron District. The 5,000-square-foot location at 936 Broadway was strategically chosen to cater to the city’s large population of skilled tradespeople, who are the brand’s core demographic.
A Store for the Hardworking New Yorker
Contrary to popular belief, New York City is home to a significant number of skilled tradespeople, such as carpenters, electricians, and construction workers. Chief Brand Officer Susan Hennike affirms that the Flatiron District, with its blue-collar core, was the perfect location for Carhartt’s debut in the city, rather than more high-profile spots like the Empire State Building.
Expanding Product Mix and Embracing Women in the Trades
The new flagship store features an expanded product mix, allowing for a wider selection of Carhartt’s rugged and durable apparel. It also gives greater prominence to womenswear, a major growth area for the brand. In fact, 20-25% of the product mix in new locations is dedicated to women’s workwear, in support of the increasing number of women in the trades. Carhartt is committed to providing durable and high-quality apparel specifically designed for women in these traditionally male-dominated industries.
