Elena Velez’s Latest Collection Takes Us on a Journey Through the BAD LANDS of the American Dream
Step into the world of Elena Velez’s namesake label and you’ll find yourself transported to a new chapter in the life of her main character. In her previous collection, we saw the captain’s daughter embracing her roots and showcasing her Fall 2026 range in a stunning seascape at ARTECHOUSE. But for YR007, Spring 2026, Velez’s shadow woman takes on a whole new persona.
Leave it to Velez to completely transform one of NYC’s most iconic venues, The Box, into the BAD LANDS universe. With a Wild Western twist, her latest collection of womenswear is a striking fusion of folklore and fashion. The Velez antihero has embarked on a journey to the depths of Great Depression Dandyism, both physically and creatively, to explore the grittier and more boundless aspects of the American Dream.
According to the show notes, Velez describes the collection as “a portrait of the dust bowl detachment, and folkloric escapism, of vagabonds, beatniks, prospectors, and gutter mystics.” The BAD LANDS universe is defined by nihilism, nostalgia, and naturalism, drawing inspiration from literary legacies of apocalyptic America. This season, the collection delves into prewar discourse, exploring themes of crumbling social orders, individualism vs collectivism, and the elusive nature of the American dream.
