Takashi Murakami Unveils Ohana Hatake: A New Footwear Brand Inspired by Iconic Flower Motifs
World-renowned artist Takashi Murakami has officially launched his latest creative venture, Ohana Hatake. This one-of-a-kind footwear brand is a new chapter in Murakami’s career, stemming from his iconic flower motifs. The brand’s name, which translates to “field of flowers” in Japanese, perfectly encapsulates the essence of the collection.
Throughout the year, Murakami has been teasing the project with three limited-edition releases. One of these releases was a collaboration with popular K-pop group BLACKPINK, featuring the Ohana Full-Bloom slides. Now, the official inauguration of Ohana Hatake is marked with two original silhouettes, including new colorways for the Ohana Full-Bloom and a brand new model called Surippa Ohana. These designs were created in collaboration with footwear experts at VIOLET ST.
The Ohana Full-Bloom slides are now available in two refreshing colorways, “Apricot” and “Raspberry Rose,” through a raffle on the brand’s official website. The first iteration of Surippa Ohana, in a colorway called “Rust,” will be unveiled at a later date. When asked about the launch of Ohana Hatake, Murakami stated, “I am pursuing an expression that explores the very relationship between American and Japanese cultures. I would love it if those who wear these sandals could sense how this team managed to craft something wonderful out of my quirky, off-the-mark ideas.”
