HUF and J Dilla: A Collaboration Celebrating a Hip-Hop Legend
Legendary Hip-Hop Producer J Dilla Honored with New Line from HUF
HUF, the iconic streetwear brand, has teamed up with the Estate of James “J Dilla” Yancey to pay tribute to the late producer, composer, and rapper. The collaboration features a range of workwear staples, custom accessories, and skate decks, all celebrating J Dilla’s enduring legacy in hip-hop.
In a statement, HUF praised J Dilla’s impact on the genre, stating that “with a mix of samples and swing that spoke to his roots in Detroit and impeccable taste, James Dewitt Yancey changed hip-hop forever.” The brand highlighted J Dilla’s early remix work with artists like Janet Jackson, The Pharcyde, and A Tribe Called Quest, as well as his solo album Donuts and his legacy with Slum Village.
The collection, titled “The Best That Ever Did It,” features T-shirts with photographs of J Dilla on the front and back, as well as mohair cardigans with “All songs produced by J Dilla” lettering. Other pieces include an honorary varsity jacket, a matching denim set, and sweaters with an all-over image of the rapper.
The collection also includes custom jewelry pieces shaped like donuts, a nod to J Dilla’s independent record label named after the sweet treat. The skate decks feature the same imagery as the ready-to-wear line. To celebrate the launch of the collection, J Dilla’s longtime friend and collaborator J Rocc will team up with Black Noise and other guest DJs for a special event in Los Angeles.
