Yohji Yamamoto Takes Over Paris with SS26 Collection at Hôtel de Ville
Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto made a bold statement at the historic Hôtel de Ville in Paris last night, showcasing his artistic mastery and turning the ready-to-wear season into his personal playground. With an unhurried pace, Yamamoto let the clothes speak for themselves as models gracefully drifted down the runway.
The 47-look collection was a display of Yamamoto’s signature control, with fabrics manipulated entirely on his own terms. The show opened with black dresses adorned with white graffiti prints, transforming the body into a canvas for storytelling. Fringed and distressed pieces followed, before looks 11 and 12 twisted and knotted fabric to reveal every possible side.
Plaid made an appearance next, with tri-toned patterns wrapped around ruffled gowns and paired with long-haired top hats that seemed frozen in time. In a touching tribute, Yamamoto paid homage to the late and great Giorgio Armani by incorporating magazine clippings and text honoring Armani’s lasting influence on his career into select garments.
The Spring/Summer 2026 collection closed with a burst of crimson, as five red looks cut through the noir with cloaks and trailing tulle, delivering Yamamoto’s final, vibrant punctuation mark. Take a closer look at the stunning Yohji Yamamoto SS26 collection in the gallery above.
