The ICE Shooter and the Cannabis Scapegoat: Why We Need to Talk About Violence, Not Weed

 Once again, the all-too-familiar cycle repeats itself. Another mass shooting, another devastating loss of innocent lives, and like clockwork, the media begins its search for answers. In the case of Joshua Jahn, the 29-year-old who unleashed a barrage of bullets at a Dallas ICE facility before taking his own life, they found their easy explanation: he was a “lazy stoner” who “was all about the weed.” This convenient narrative, presented in a trendy, hipster journalistic style, leaves little room for nuance or deeper understanding.
