Wales Bonner x adidas Karintha Sequin: A Bold and Futuristic Collaboration
Last summer, Wales Bonner teased us with a glimpse of their latest collaboration with adidas at their SS25 runway presentation. Since then, the Wales Bonner x adidas Karintha Sequin has been flying under the radar. But new product shots have finally been released, giving us a closer look at the flamboyant details of this highly anticipated shoe.
The Karintha Sequin features a dynamic sequin upper that reflects rich shades of black and brown. This design is reminiscent of Y2K-era footwear, with its sleek and slim soles and a stripped-back upper inspired by classic adidas silhouettes. The sequins themselves come in a variety of hues, ranging from black and silver to brown and gold, adding a touch of glamour to the shoe.
In contrast to the sequin-adorned upper, the minimal stripe overlays, heel tab, and tongue are made of a matte brown textile. The outsoles are embossed with a futuristic, distorted grid pattern, with the iconic trefoil emblem stamped on them.
Wales Bonner is known for pushing the boundaries of menswear aesthetics, incorporating traditionally feminine details into their designs. Their previous collaborations with adidas, such as the Samba “Silver Metallic” and “Pony Leopard,” have been bold and eye-catching. The Jewel Sneakers, a Mary Jane and sneaker hybrid, took this to another level with its metallic silver and golden snake print design.
Earlier this year, Wales Bonner launched their first-ever womenswear line for FW25, featuring elegant leather dresses and tailored outerwear. The line also included unisex styles, which were featured in their FW24 menswear campaign. However, their original FW25 menswear campaign hinted at a more androgynous direction for the brand, with delicate touches of jewel-toned knitwear and lace-like woven fabric.
The Karintha Sequin is set to be released in European channels by late April or early May, according to industry sources. An official release date has yet to be confirmed, but stay tuned to Hypebeast for updates on this highly anticipated collaboration.
